Laurel Park to be Featured in Historic Homes Tour

by Jude Levy

The Sarasota Alliance for Historic Preservation has chosen Laurel Park for its 24th annual Homes Tour! We are delighted to have the opportunity to show off our National Historic District.

This spring, on Sunday, March 2, 2014, the Tour will be held in the Washington Park area – the Owen Burns Subdivision, east of Osprey. The homes highlighted will be on Columbia Court and Oak. Some homes will be open for tours, others will have docents in front of them explaining their historical significance.

A tour bus will be making a loop throughout the whole of Laurel Park highlighting the national and locally designated historic homes. We will have a historic map to hand out to visitors. Parking will be available at Oak and 301.

The following spring of 2015, the Alliance plans to highlight the homes on the west side of Osprey, focusing on Ohio and Oak for their Annual Homes Tour.

We are honored and pleased with this opportunity to shine. When the time approaches we will provide more information about the Tour. And, we will be encouraging residents to spruce up their yards, reminding them that the sidewalk and grassy sections between the street and sidewalks are to be kept up by the owners.

Laurel Park is a beautiful, close-knit neighborhood. We ask for your hospitality and willingness to show the larger community our best. Put this event on your 2014 calendars and thank you!
