Great Turnout at General Meeting – Feb 27th
Over 100 residents attended the neighborhood general meeting at the Tamiami Tap.
Mark and his staff at Tamiami Tap were wonderful hosts.
Updates were given on:
- Street safety : new restrictive parking signs on Cherry and Rawls to improve visibility when turning onto Rawls,
- Oak Street Median: project on hold while city resurfaces the road and adds curbing to the median. There was a question regarding whether all of Oak Street would be resurfaced or just between Washington and Osprey. After further communication with the city, the association has learned that all of Laurel Park (from Washington to Orange) will be resurfaced. This project will occur during the city’s 2023-2024 fiscal year.
- Betsy Sublette: award presented to Betsy for her 18 years of service with the neighborhood association. In addition, a tree will be planted in her honor in our neighborhood pocket park as part of the city’s Arbor Day celebration.
In addition, members of the city’s planning department gave an update on the city’s affordable housing initiatives. Speakers included:
- Steven Cover – Planning Director,
- Ryan Chapdelain – General Manager Planning,
- Brianna Dobbs – Senior Planner,
- Rebecca Webster – Planner
After the presentation, which was appreciated by the neighborhood, the engaged residents asked many questions and although details have yet to be finalized, staff answered almost all the inquiries right on the spot.
