Milton hits Laurel Park

Overall, it could have been much worst.

Hurricane Milton passed through Sarasota last night, with the storm’s eye passing over Laurel Park between 8:30 and 9:30 pm. It left power out, with most neighborhood roads blocked by downed trees and utility lines. But in walking around part of the neighborhood this morning, the external property damage appears to be surprisingly low for the pounding winds we took. We hope that remains the case as folks make it back into their homes over the next few days checking for water leaks and more.

There’s been progress made during the day. Power is back on for some, and most of the streets in the neighborhood have been cleared of blockages by neighbors working together. But street turn lights in most of the neighborhood’s surrounding downtown area remain out (we’re to treat those intersections as 4 way stops for now), and there’s plenty of cleanup efforts still ahead for all of us.

We’re sharing a few photos from around the neighborhood for those that are away. We should hear updates from the City and County in the next day or two, and will share those instructions when we get them. Meanwhile, we hope everyone is safe and well, and continues to look out for your neighbors.

Oak and Madison. A visitor staying on Madison reported a fire in the road during the storm when this tree fell across the road and took a transformer down with it. The heavy rain put the fire out.
