1608 Oak Street – “Belvedere Bungalow”
The stucco-covered bungalow located at 1608 Oak Street is a rectangular, irregularly planned, one-story building dating to about 1926. The bungalow is typical of a style that first appeared in Sarasota in the 1910’s. The style represents the “Belvedere” or “Airplane” form of the bungalow style, identified by the use of extra-wide eaves that emphasize the building’s horizontality and pronounced lack of verticality.
The house is known as the “Belvedere Bungalow” and is currently used as an office.
A small gabled auto garage with double doors stands behind the building and appears to be constructed of the same materials but does not appear of the city’s maps in 1928 or 1929.
The house is locally designated as historic.
